While surgery can be potentially stressful (for both you and your pet), there are a few basic guidelines that you can follow to make the process as complication free as possible and put your pet on the fast road to recovery. With this in mind, we provide you with a pre/post operation handout prior to your pet’s surgery and will ensure we have good communication with you so you know exactly what to expect.
Spaying, or desexing female animals, minimises the risk of cancers of the reproductive organs and the mammary glands, prevents unwanted pregnancies removes the hassle of bleeding on your furniture (which occurs when they come “on heat”), and makes the pet more relaxed around other pets.
Neutering, or desexing of males, is also carried out under general anaesthesia. Neutered males are less likely to roam, urine-mark their territory, or fight with other males, as well as are less likely to have prostate cancer later in their lives. The operation is usually performed when your pet is about six months old.
Microchipping
In NSW, microchipping is a crucial step in ensuring your pet’s safety and compliance with local regulations. Dental Surgery
If your pet is scheduled for dental surgery for a scale and polish or tooth extraction, we will perform a pre-anaesthesia blood test as dental surgery requires general anaesthesia.
We have in-house dental x-ray equipment: Digital dental X-ray is critical for diagnosing underlying pathology hidden below the gum line.
We offer a complimentary post-op checkup and encourage you to come back every six months to check your pet’s progress. We provide you with a post-op plan handout detailing how to look after and clean your pet’s teeth, providing information on general oral health care, and recommending the best diet for your pet. If you find caring for your pet’s teeth a difficult task, we can schedule weekly nursing checks, when the nurse will brush your pet’s teeth and help you with any other problems you might have.
Emergency Veterinary Surgery
When you bring your pet in for emergency surgery because of illness or injury, our veterinarians thoroughly examine your animal, take X-rays, and perform blood tests to fully diagnose your animal’s health issues.
