Claire's Story
From a young age, I knew I wanted to care for animals—pink elephants included! I feel incredibly fortunate to be in a profession I love. My passion for animals started early, and after persistent requests for a dog, my parents compromised by getting me a rabbit instead. Tamsin was my beloved companion for eight years.
I studied veterinary nursing at an Agricultural College in the U.K. and have continued to expand my knowledge through professional development courses and certifications.
As a junior nurse, I met Jess, a frightened six-month-old Jack Russell Terrier cross who had been brought in to be euthanised. Her elderly owner had passed away, and her relatives mistakenly believed she was aggressive. Wanting to give her a chance, I took Jess home for the weekend—which turned into 17.5 wonderful years. She was incredibly loyal and loving, proving just how misunderstood she had been. Rescuing her was one of the best decisions I ever made, and she will always have a special place in my heart.
Similarly, during our previous time in Australia, I nursed and adopted a flu-ridden kitten, Snotface, who became a cherished part of our family. He traveled with us to London and brought us endless joy for 18 years before sadly passing away. Nowadays, we take the gorgeous clinic cat home on weekends and holidays.
Throughout my career, I have taken on a variety of roles in veterinary nursing and practice management across the U.K. and Australia, always enjoying the work and the friendships made along the way. One of the most rewarding experiences was spending 18 months in China with the incredible team at Animals Asia Foundation, an organization dedicated to ending bear bile farming and animal cruelty. Their work is truly inspiring.
After a fulfilling period working in a fantastic London clinic, my husband and I returned to live in Sydney, where we later welcomed our gorgeous son. Miriam and I had worked well together in the past and often talked about one day opening our own hospital. I am deeply passionate about Potts Point Veterinary Hospital, animals and my role as a veterinary professional.

Head Qualified Veterinary Nurse
I have always wanted to be a Vet Nurse, and 16 years on, I am still really passionate about the industry and looking after my furry patients!
My Vet nursing career started in 2006 in the UK, where I trained and worked in a mixed animal practice for five years. After a stint of locum work, I was lucky to travel with my Vet Nursing. I spent eight months volunteering in South Africa with Cheetah’s and in Botswana, working for a fabulous charity that spends its time between the clinic and visiting local villages neutering the dogs and cats. I was fortunate enough to experience the local life and see some incredible wildlife during my time in Botswana, and I would love to return one day.

I was fortunate enough to get a permanent residency through my last vet clinic, where I worked for six years and have recently just become a citizen!
I have recently started working with the lovely team at Potts Point Vet and am looking forward to meeting the local pets and their pet parents!

Crystal Hajj,
Qualified Veterinary Nurse
A big portion of my childhood was spent in Lebanon chasing frogs by the river, collecting snake skins and riding our beloved donkey on my grandparents’ farm. Inevitably, I developed a deep appreciation for the natural world. After moving to Australia and discovering all the unique fauna here, my passion for animals only compounded. I grew to idolise Steve Irwin and David Attenborough. The idea of travelling the world, encountering exotic wildlife and aiding in conservation efforts was my ultimate dream. But the most I could do at the time was beg mum and dad for a pet dog… A challenging pursuit nonetheless! Over the years I managed to adopt a little duckling, a rabbit, and a tiny mouse called Peanut. Coming home to them was always the highlight of my day.

The pandemic eventually brought me back to Sydney so my desire to work with animals could be realised again. I was lucky enough to join the incredible team at Potts Point Veterinary Hospital, who have fostered my growth and development in the industry. After four years of study, volunteering and in-clinic experience, I am thrilled to be qualified as a Veterinary Nurse. It’s so rewarding to meet the beautiful community of animal lovers here and see the excitement of our patients as they burst through the clinic doors. When I’m not working in Potts Point, you might find me at Taronga Zoo working in their wildlife hospital. Outside of work, I love to climb, camp, modify my campervan and plan my next overseas cycle touring adventure.

Growing up in a neighbourhood full of stray cats, I always wanted to become knowledgeable in the veterinary field to provide better care for them. I regularly volunteered at a no-kill cat shelter during my semester breaks for 3 years. During my time there, I partook in socialising and behavioural training of stray cats for adoption in addition to caring for their husbandry needs.

Currently, I am pursuing my studies at the University of Sydney. Upon transitioning into the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, I decided to gain more hands-on experience in this field. It is a privilege to work alongside the compassionate and highly qualified team at Potts Point Veterinary Hospital. Besides English, I am also fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and Japanese. I hope I can offer assistance in communication between clients and staff when necessary.

Hi, I’m Mavis, I’m an international student from Singapore, currently pursuing my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) at the University of Sydney. My love for animals started young—I spent my childhood playing with stray cats in my neighbourhood, sneaking them treats and dreaming of a future where I could help animals for a living. That dream led me to volunteer as a vet nurse at a shelter clinic, where I saw firsthand the resilience of animals and the power of compassionate care. Later, I worked in a vet clinic, gaining even more experience and deepening my passion for veterinary medicine.

Outside of vet school, I love travelling, exploring different cultures, and staying active through dance. I believe that kindness, curiosity, and a bit of fun make life—and veterinary care—so much richer. You will find me at Potts Point Veterinary Hospital every Sunday morning, I can’t wait to meet you and your furry (or feathered, or scaly) family members at the clinic.
